Dasam Sri Guru Granth Sahib Vidyala & Bandichor Kalgidhar Printing Press Gurdwara Rajdani Boonga Nihang Singha, Mehro, Moga – Punjab
One of the most profound qualities of Sri Guru Gobind Singh was their poetic excellence. They composed many great literatures which after their death were collected by the greatly revered Sikh, Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh at the request of the Guru’s wife Mata Sunderi Ji. The compilation became known as Dasam Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the Granth of the highly revered tenth Guru.
Sir John Malcolm, one of the earliest British observers of the Sikhs and their traditions, notes that
Although this highlights that during the height of Sikh Rule in Punjab the writings of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji were greatly revered, in recent times much of knowledge and traditions surrounding the writings of the tenth Guru have been completely lost. The Budha Dal Vidyala (school of knowledge) in a secluded setting within the village of Mehro (Moga, Punjab) has become an international centre for the propagation of Dasam Sri Guru Granth sahib Ji.
The great Budha Dal Saint, Sant Baba Teja Singh Nihang Singh devoted his entire life to preserving and preaching the life works of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Having spent much time learning from Sant Gurbachan Singh Khalsa Bhinderanwale, he set up base in the secluded village of Mehro where the sixth Guru, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji had visited. On the outskirts of the village where there was a swamp, he set up base planting beautiful gardens and tending the land. From here he began his life’s work which would be of instrumental importance for the Khalsa Panth.
For more than twenty years he prepared a commentary on Dasam Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, which was accepted by the Panth as ‘Shiromani Steek’ – the most conclusive commentary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s writings. The Singhs at Mehro set up their own printing press – Bandhi Chor Kalgidhar Printing Press where the printing of Gurbani was done by all Amritdhari Singhs, and to order only, so as to ensure maximum respect for the printing of Gurbani. Having published several works and 3 volumes of the Sri Dasam Guru Granth Sahib commentary, he passed away in 2002.
Sant Giani Surjeet Singh Ji was entrusted to carry forward the work of his predecessor. He has become a leading international authority on the works of Sri Guru Gobind Singh and has spent the last few years printing the remaining volumes of the steek. With the grace of Satguru, and aide of Sikhs around the world, particularly Sant Giani Gurdev Singh UK, only the final volume now needs printed. The most authentic Saroops (complete binding) and Bhag (volume bindings) of Dasam Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji are also printed at Mehro, as a result of a strenuous proofreading process.
Sant Giani Surjeet Singh travels around India promoting the writings of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. At their base in Mehro, he trains students from around the world in Sikh scripture, with emphasis on the writings of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Once all volumes of the Steek have been published, the next stage of his work is to construct an Academy of international standards for students around the world to come and learn the scriptures of Sri Guru Gobind Singh to ensure that the Sikh tradition has future generation of well versed scholars. Furthermore, he is working to prepare a ‘Dasam Path Darpan’, a conclusive aide to reading Dasam Sri Guru Granth Sahib. With the Guru’s grace such ambitions can be achieved if Sikh sangat around the world rally to support this cause. For more information please contact info@nihangsingh.org
